Animate Old Photos

Bring old photos to life as a short video: the people in your photo breathe, blink and smile, with their faces, clothes and the photo's own look kept exactly as they are. Upload one old photo, or two separate photos to put two people side by side in one clip. There is no prompt to write.

1Add your photos

AI Photo Animation for Old Family Pictures

Bring Photos to Life, Gently

Old photo animation here means small, lifelike motion: a slow breath, a blink, a soft smile, a slight turn of the head. Nobody waves, dances or walks off the frame.

The Photo Stays the Photo

Black and white stays black and white, faded colors stay faded, and the grain, scratches and border of a vintage photo are kept. Faces and clothes are not changed.

One Photo or Two

A single photo keeps its own shape and background. Two separate photos put both people side by side in front of a plain studio backdrop, in the look of the first photo.

5 or 10 Seconds, No Prompt

Choose the length and the quality and generate. The motion is fixed for this page, so there is nothing to describe and nothing to edit afterwards.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean to animate old photos?

You upload a still photo and get a short video in which the people in it move a little, as if the moment had been filmed: breathing, a blink, a smile. The result is an MP4 you can download and share. Nothing is added to the scene and nobody is replaced.

Can black-and-white or faded photos be animated?

Yes. The video keeps the look of the photo you upload: black and white stays black and white, sepia stays sepia, and fading, grain and scratches are left as they are. A sharp scan with the face clearly visible gives the most natural motion.

Does it work on group photos?

A single portrait, or two people, gives the best result. Photos with several small faces can be animated, but the motion of each person is less reliable, so we do not promise a clean result for large groups.

Can I put two people from two different old photos together?

Yes. Switch to the two-photo tab and add one person in each photo. Both appear side by side in one clip, turn to each other and smile, in the look of the first photo. People use this for two relatives who were never photographed together, including someone who has passed away. The tab asks you to confirm that you may use both photos.

Should I restore or colorize the photo first?

This page does not restore, colorize or enlarge photos; it animates the photo as it is. If you want a cleaner version, restore it with another tool first and upload the result. A photo that is very blurred or torn across the face will animate poorly.

Is it free to animate old photos here?

New accounts get free welcome credits, with no card required, and the price of each clip is shown on the button before you generate. Credits for a failed generation are returned.

Is there an app to download?

No app is needed. The page runs in the browser on a phone or a computer, and your videos are kept in your account so you can download them again later.

What happens to the photos I upload?

Uploaded photos are used only to make your video and to run the safety check. Upload photos you have the right to use; photos of celebrities, public figures and minors are not allowed, and the two-photo mode asks you to confirm this.

Do I need to write a prompt?

No. The motion on this page is fixed, so there is no text box. If you want to describe your own motion for a photo, use the image to video generator on the home page instead.
